Dracula (1931)

The 1931 American pre-Code vampire film Dracula, directed and co-produced by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi in the title role, stands as a seminal work in the horror genre.  It is based on the 1924 stage play by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston which itself was adapted from Bram Stroker’s 1897 novel Dracula. This film holds the distinction of being the first sound film adaptation of the novel and a pivotal moment in the launch of Universal’s horror film legacy.
